Cloth Talk 2.0 Episode 3: Santee Lodge 116 Musical Chairs

In Episode 3 of Cloth Talk 2.0 Hank Birdsong and Jason Spangler turn the attention to Santee Lodge 116.  For those that collect the lodge one of the more puzzling issues might be the S12 flap.  It was first issued in 1995 replacing the S1o which had been the lodge's single combination honors flap for 11 years (1984-1995).  However, thanks to the various screw ups by the patch companies the council shifted who they did business with three times during the 10 year run of his issue. Therefore, when the lodge reordered the flap using the same design it became a different variety of the same issue.  S12a was produced by Krelman and was used from 1995-97.  During this time the flap would be considered a combination honors flap as there were no Brotherhood or Vigil Honor issues to complement it.  However, when the lodge did decide to go with a 3-flap system in 1997  it was Stadri that got the work.  The switch to Stadri created the S12b which matches the S13a Brotherhood and S14a Vigil flaps.  A few years later the council switched from Stadri to Moritz so in 1999 the S12c came out.  Each of these patches was listed by the Blue Book as a variety of the original S12 design.  A trained eye can tell them apart pretty quickly but the differences are subtle enough that they never warranted being considered a completely different issue.  Eventually the entire design series came to an end in 2005 when the youth voted to adopt a new flap design and return to the original parakeet from the lodge's first issue.  So if you had to rank these you would say that the S12c is the easier issue to find having been around for twice as long as the other two versions.  However, remember too that during this time the flaps were always sold on a restricted basis.  The restriction was that you could only purchase 1 per fellowship which meant a maximum of 3/year.  You can view the video using the embedded player below or click this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6CzFolBg-4&feature=share
